The 23rd US. Indoor Championships are held on Thanksgiving weekend, Wednesday November 27th to Sunday December 1st 2002 at the Holiday Inn in Independence Ohio.

The race is also just called "Cleveland", classes this year were: 1/12 Modified, 1/12 Masters, 1/12 Stock, Touring Car Modified, Touring Car Masters and Touring Car Stock.

This years event was Sold-Out with over 490 competitors trying to break in to the prestigious top ten.

  • Wednesday-The track is assembled in the main ballroom and racer registration starts in the evening.
  • Thursday-3 rounds of controlled practice with the racers you will be qualifying with.
  • Friday-2 rounds of qualifying followed by a re-shuffle.
  • Saturday-2 more rounds of qualifying in your new heats.
  • Sunday-All mains are run backwards, with the A mains run last.

What's new this year at Cleveland?
  • Corally showed up with a new 4-cell 12th scale car and a prototype sedan.
  • Team SpeedMerchant was seen testing a new front end on some of their 12th scale cars.
  • Josh Cyrul was racing a highly modified TC3 in Touring Mod.
  • IRS tested a new un-named T-bar 12th scale.
  • Trinity/TRC's new flourecent yellow wheels were seen on many cars.
  • Atushi Hara and his prototype HPI shaft drive sedan showed up.
  • There seemed to be a large resurgence of 12th Scale this year with many big name sedan drivers trying 12th scale for the first time.
  • GP and Sanyo 3300's were the battery of choice, with the edge going to GP.

The racing was excellent although the track was a little bumpy and the new carpet had less traction than previous years. In a way this was good, because it really didn't let the normal "rocket round" occur on Saturday evening. The track lay-out was very fast, with a diagonal straight going down the center of the track.
